RSK Biocensus was invited to participate in the recent bio/life sciences recruitment fair at Glasgow Caledonian University. Ecologist Michael Hogg and Ecological Consultant David Eastwood from the Stirling office attended on behalf of RSK Biocensus.

We arrived early to scope out the location of the fair and some of our fellow fair attendees and even before we had set up eager students were firing questions at us. This set the tone for our afternoon. Michael was interviewed and videoed for additional publicity.

The fair ran from 12-3pm and we, like all the businesses there were inundated for the majority of the time. We spoke to more than 50 students and we were both impressed with how prepared they were with an array of probing queries. Most students were keen to learn how to best plan their entry route into RSK Biocensus, RSK group and the wider sector, and to learn what opportunities were available within the group.

Towards the end of the session as footfall started to reduce we were able to have a chat with some of the other attendees and the organisers. There was a diverse range of businesses from Merch and Target Healthcare to the Federation of Food and Drink Scotland. We discussed how well the event had gone, and how much talking we all had to do! We all mentioned how well prepared the students were with a good range of challenging questions. Glasgow Caledonian University overall had a positive outlook on the event, inviting us back for further fairs.

This was a really positive experience for RSK Biocensus. Although we did not identify specific candidates for some of the roles we have to offer at the moment, there is now a cohort of excellent professional students who have RSK group in their sights for their next career move.

We would like to extend our thanks to Glasgow Caledonian University for this invitation, and to the staff and students of the Biosciences department for their help and positive engagement on the day.
