We are thrilled to announce that Ethan Luwaji-Constantine, Assistant Ecologist at RSK Biocensus, has officially reached his 6-month milestone at RSK Biocensus! This period has been a transformative experience filled with professional growth, hands-on fieldwork, and valuable learning in the field of ecological consultancy.
During his time with us, Ethan has had the opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of ecological surveys and assessments, gaining a well-rounded understanding of the diverse work we do at RSK Biocensus. His involvement has included:
Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA)
Protected Species Surveys (PRAS)
Ground-Level Tree Assessments (GLTA)
Badger Surveys
Wintering Bird Surveys
…and much more!
In addition to his fieldwork, Ethan has also completed Ecological Clerk of Works (ECOW) training, which has equipped him with the skills needed to offer expert, site-based ecological advice during construction projects.
One of Ethan’s standout experiences so far has been supporting a project requiring an exclusion badger licence. This opportunity gave him hands-on experience with the licensing and mitigation processes under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, a vital aspect of ensuring the protection of wildlife during development projects.
Through his varied projects, Ethan has built a strong foundation in several key areas of ecological consultancy, including:
Habitat classification and assessment (UKHab and Phase 1)
Understanding protected species legislation and ensuring compliance
Report writing and effective stakeholder communication
GIS mapping and spatial analysis
Field survey techniques and data management
Ethan reflects, “I am incredibly grateful for the mentorship and opportunities I’ve received here. I’ve gained so much practical knowledge, and I’m excited to continue developing my skills in ecology, particularly with a growing interest in riparian mammals and ornithology.”
We’re proud to support Ethan’s growth as an ecologist and look forward to seeing how he continues to thrive in the field. Here’s to the next six months and beyond!
